14 Minute Chocolate Lava Cake

A cake in fourteen minutes?? In the microwave??

I know it sounds completely unbelievable but it’s true!

The greatest thing about this cake is that it is ready to eat in fourteen minutes. The worst thing about this cake is also that it is ready in only fourteen minutes. It’s a curse and a blessing.

A year ago I hosted a pampered chef party at my house. My friendly local Pampered Chef Consultant, Corin came by with her bag of recipes and a ton of fun cooking tools. We broke out the wine and had a good time. During the party I became completely mesmerized with the deep covered baker that goes in the microwave. You can cook literally anything in the microwave with this stoneware baker.

The recipe she made that night was the Chocolate Lava Cake and quite honestly I bought the deep covered baker solely for the 14 minute chocolate lava cake. There are a slew of recipes that go with the pan but who needs ’em I have cake.

It’s so easy it’s almost ridiculous.

Ingredients:DSCN4751

Chocolate Cake Mix

Pre-made Chocolate Icing (16oz can)

eggs

water

oil

Directions:

Make the cake in the deep covered baker as directed on the box. Then spoon the icing into the uncooked cake batter. Cook in the microwave for 14 minutes. That’s it! In fourteen minutes the cake is completely baked and the icing is melty and delicious!

Tips and suggestions:

I thought I could outthink this recipe and tried it with both vanilla icing and white cake but it didn’t work as well. You really need the chocolate for all the gooey lava goodness.

Was it worth buying this deep covered baker exclusively for cake? Absolutely!

I made this with a chocolate cake but hubby got cream cheese icing and omgoodness it was still awesome. You should try it with cream cheese icing? Thanks for the info.

  3. Missy says:

I only cooked it for ten minutes and it still tastes delicious and very moist. So I’d say 10-14 minutes till it’s done, depending on the microwave.

  4. I am a Pampered Chef consultant and this is one of my biggest seller.. Thanks for talking about it.

Can it be baked in oven?

    • I think you can put the deep dish baker in the microwave, but I have never tried it.

Yes, it can go in the conventional oven. I bought my deep dish at a Pampered chef show several years ago. I baked it at 350 degrees for about an hour and fifteen minutes and itis delicious! It becomes like your very own “brick” oven. A husband referred to it as his “easy bake oven”. I never used it for anything else until a recent show where I learned about desserts. More reasons to love my baker! And at THAT recent show,I was introduced to more wonderful products and became a consultant.I LOVE Pampered Chef, the cooking shows, the product and most of all the people. I LIVE in Lake Havasu City, Az. My email is dianemanley248@gmail and you can find me at pamperedchef.com.

I’ve made it with a yellow cake mix and chocolate icing and it worked great!

  14. Angela says:

Ok, I made mine and the cake was done on top but very soupy on bottom. Do you stir it or let it stand and absorb the liquid or did I just not cook it long enough?

  15. Paula says:

My microwave is not big enough for my baker. How long would I bake the cake for in the oven? At what temperature? Lid on or off?

  16. I’m SO glad I found this!!! We just moved and didn’t know where the recipe was. I also bought the deep covered baker after a friend showed me the lava cake at her party! Lol! Thanks for sharing it!

  18. Megan says:

I have the mini deep covered baker. Would it work in the mini or do you need the regular sized baker?

One Easter I did it with Yellow cake mix & White frosting that I divided into enough prep bowls to accomodate various colors. Then mixed each bowl of frosting with individual colors. I then plopped them on top of the batter & baked in microwave. What a Rainbow of colors.
So yes you can use Yellow mix & White frosting. .. just color the frosting. Red n Green for Christmas. Purple & Gold Easter “The King Has Risen”!
    Use your imagination!

Do you bake the cake in the microwave covered or uncovered? Thank you!
